In the next 10 years, there may be a cancer vaccine. During the pandemic, experts made a Covid vaccine. They learnt a lot from that research. Now, they have new information. They can use this to make cancer vaccines.
Covid vaccines are special. They are mRNA vaccines. They don't give people the virus. They make a special protein in the body. These are antibodies. The antibodies look for Covid in the body. They kill the Covid virus.
Dr Paul Burton works for Moderna. This company makes Covid vaccines. Now, they're trying to make cancer vaccines. They take a cancer tumour from a patient. They test the tumour. Then, they make a vaccine for that patient.
Burton wants a single vaccine for cancer. They could make vaccines for other diseases too. But, they need money to do more research. Without this money, it won't be possible to make more vaccines.
