The cheese thieves - 18th November 2024
It's like a Hollywood film. Some thieves took 22 tonnes of expensive cheese. They stole it from Neal's Yard Dairy in London.
How did thieves steal so much cheese? They emailed the dairy. The email was from a big European cheese seller. This company wanted to buy cheddar cheese for a French supermarket. But this email was not real.
The dairy sold the thieves 950 blocks of cheese. These cost £300,000. But the thieves didn't pay the bill.
English cheeses from small companies are becoming popular. These companies know a lot about cheesemaking. The stolen cheese may be for customers in Russia or the Middle East.
But the thieves need to be quick! If the cheese gets warm, or if they don't sell it quickly, it'll go bad.
The stolen cheese came from small companies. Neal's Yard Dairy is paying them for it. These small companies need the money.
