Earth's on fire - 14th August 2023
The world was on fire in June and July 2023. July had 21 very hot days. The planet usually gets warm during the summer months. But July 2023 was special. Temperatures went up very high around the world.
China, North America and the Mediterranean had very high temperatures. There were fires in Greece, Tunisia, Algeria and Italy. The fires burned homes, businesses and 100 thousand hectares of land. This is bad for the environment and the economy.
The leader of the United Nations is worried about the high temperatures. He's asking rich countries to use clean energy. He wants them to stop burning gas and petrol. This is putting carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. It's making the planet hot.
Experts say summer temperatures will continue to go up. The seas will get warm. There'll be more storms and fires. But we can slow this down. We must use clean energy. We must hurry!
