Morning light good for health - 7th March 2022
Scientists say morning light is important for good health. It's dangerous to live without it. People need to go outside early in the morning.
20 minutes a day can be enough. But many people in Britain spend under 30 minutes outside. And this number is going down each year. Oxford University scientist Aarti Jagannath says this brings health problems.
Sunlight helps our bodies understand day and night. Morning light helps us wake and sleep. The 24 hour pattern begins when the sun comes up.
The light needs to be natural. This is difficult for night workers. In Britain, three million people work at night. 97 percent of night workers sleep badly.
Night workers can have big health problems like heart disease. And it can make them unhappy too. The World Health Organisation says working at night is dangerous.
When the sun comes out, go out!
