UNESCO World Heritage Sites - 9th August 2021
The United Nations has a list of special places. These places are important for the world.
Every year, UNESCO checks places on the World Heritage List. Some places have a long history. Some places are beautiful. This year, the World Heritage Committee checked 255 places.
Liverpool city centre, in England, was on the list. It's next to the water. It has lots of history. But in 2012, there was a problem. The city wanted new buildings.
The committee didn't like Liverpool's plans. The city built new offices and houses. This year, the committee took Liverpool off the list.
The committee puts places on the list too. Paseo del Prado is in Madrid. The famous street has lots of trees. It has important buildings, a big museum and Retiro Park.
These places are important for art, history and science. This year, the committee put them on the list.
