Problems for Dubai COP conference - 27th November 2023
COP28 is the next UN conference about climate change.
But there's a problem. This year, the 28th COP will be in Dubai. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) produces oil, lots of oil. Oil's a fossil fuel. Fossil fuels are bad for the climate.
Sultan Al Jaber is the President of COP28. He's the head of UAE oil too. He doesn't want to stop producing oil. He wants to produce less.
For people like Greta Thunberg, this is a bad idea. People are angry. They're worried too.
One protester, Eric Njuguna, is from Kenya. He feels angry about Al Jaber and the COP conference.
Climate change often hits poor countries. Last year, at COP27, Njuguna spoke about this. Poor countries don't damage the environment. It's the rich countries. They use fossil fuels and produce 92 percent of gases. At COP27, rich countries agreed to give money to help.
At COP28, will rich countries still help?
