Whales are very big animals. They live in the sea but they are not fish. In Norway, not many people eat whale. Now, some people are eating whale for the first time.
Around the world, people don't eat much whale meat. In the past, people killed a lot of whales. 30 years ago, a new international rule stopped this. Now, only Norway, Iceland and Japan kill whales. In Norway, whale meat was a traditional food. But most people don't eat it now. They stopped many years ago.
Some people in Japan eat whale meat. Norway sends a lot of its whale meat to Japan. But now, there is a change in Norway. Some people are eating whale again.
Hopen Fisk is a fish company. They sell whale meat in Norway. This year, they are selling a lot. Ernst Iseli is the manager of Hopen Fisk. He thinks people on holiday are trying local food.
Whale meat is a special dish in the north of Norway. This year, it is difficult to travel. Norwegians are going on holiday in Norway. They are eating whale meat in restaurants.
This is a big change for Norway. In 2019, many Norwegians never ate whale.
Animal charities are worried. There aren't many whales in the world. They want people to stop eating whale meat.
