India has a new president. President Droupadi Murmu became president on 25th July. She's the first leader from a traditional community.
President Murmu is special. She comes from a poor family. She grew up in a traditional village. This life is very different from modern India. But she went to university. She was the first girl in her village to study at university.
Murmu worked for a government department. Then, she became a teacher. She taught lots of different subjects. In 1997, Murmu became a politician.
Murmu's India's second woman president. Her community's happy about Murmu's new job. India's traditional communities hope things will change. They want the government to listen to them more.
President Murmu wants to help the environment. She says traditional communities can help. They know how to live with nature.
