Kamala Harris has been named as Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden's running mate to take on Republican incumbent Trump in the forthcoming US elections.
Of Jamaican and Indian descent, Harris is the first major party vice presidential candidate to be African American or Asian American.
Being first is nothing new for Harris as she was the first African American, first woman, and first Asian American to hold office as California's attorney general, and the first Indian American to serve as a US senator, being only the second African American woman to do so.
Harris previously announced her intent to run for the presidency itself, but she later retired from the race and has since given her blessing to Joe Biden's campaign.
Harris will have to wait 'til November 2020 to see if she can add another first to her list.
