Amazon tribe in danger - 6th October 2025

The Mashco Piro people live in the Amazon in Peru. But this tribe's in danger.

People in the tribe usually stay away from other groups. They want to keep their culture. Ordinary illnesses can make them very sick too. But some Mashco Piro people went into another village.

The village is Nueva Oceania. The Yine people live there. The head of Nueva Oceania is Enrique Añez. He told the Associated Press that he's very worried. A logging company is cutting down trees on Mashco Piro land.

Last year, the tribe killed two men from the logging company. The loggers were on Mashco Piro land.

Now, the company is back. It's cutting down trees again. It has a licence from the government. Part of the area in the licence is Mashco Piro land.

Peru's government wants to help tribes. It made rules to look after Mashco Piro land. And it's spending more money on helping these communities.
