The fastest ever London Marathon - 11th May 2026

The 2026 London Marathon was a special year. Many runners broke records. Sabastian Sawe, from Kenya, was the 2026 winner.

He finished the marathon in under 2 hours. It took him one hour 59 minutes and 30 seconds. That's a world record.

Tigst Assefa, from Ethiopia, also broke the record for women. She finished in two hours, 15 minutes and 41 seconds.

Athletes weren't the only winners. The 2026 race started with 66,393 people. They came from 173 countries and their ages ranged from 18 to 88.

And 59,830 runners completed the race. That's another world record.

As usual, many runners ran to raise money. They wanted to help different charities.

One runner was Jordan Adams. He ran with a 25-kilogram fridge on his back. He wanted to help a dementia charity. His own mother died of dementia.

The total for this year's marathon is nearly £90 million. That's another world record! And many runners are already waiting for 2027.
