Australian sheep's haircut goes viral - B1+

Baarack the sheep - 3rd March 2021

Last week, this wild sheep was discovered wandering in a forest in Victoria State, Australia. His overgrown fleece was covered in mud and causing him problems.

The sheep was transported to Edgar's Mission Farm Sanctuary close to Melbourne where he had his hair cut and was given a new nickname: Baarack.

Pam Ahern, who set up the sanctuary, believes Baarack's fleece had not been cut for about five years.

When it was removed, the fleece weighed around 35 kilograms. Such a heavy weight of wool can leave sheep unable to walk. Australia is so hot and dry that few sheep would live through the summer.

While Baarack's fleece is massive, it's not quite the biggest one ever. In 2015, Chris, another Australian sheep, was discovered in the wild with a 41 kilogram fleece.

Videos of Baarack's transformation went viral on social media and have been viewed millions of times on TikTok.

Baarack is now getting used to life without his fleece at the sanctuary.
