What colour is the sun - 26th June 2023
Think of the sun. What colour do you see? You might see yellow, white or red. But which one is the sun's real colour? Most scientists say it's a green star. Some think it looks white.
Children colour the sun as a yellow circle with rays. At midday, it seems white. In the evening, it can look orange or red. This happens because of the atmosphere. Our eyes see hot things in these colours too.
When the sun's light reaches Earth, the sky looks blue. This is because of the molecules in the air. The orange and red light passes through. This gives us the colours at sunrise and sunset.
The sun's a green light. But it's too bright for our eyes to see. Some scientists disagree. Our eyes see a white sun. So, they think the sun's white.
In different languages, people describe the sun's colour in different ways.
