Coffee to energy - 6th July 2020
A UK company, Bio-bean, is recycling coffee. They are changing coffee into energy.
In the UK, people drink 95 million cups of coffee a day. We throw away the used coffee. It goes into the ground. It slowly makes a dangerous gas. This gas is bad for the Earth.
Bio-bean gets used coffee from coffee shops in the UK. They clean the old coffee. This washes out any plastic or paper from it. Then they dry it. They make small blocks with the coffee.
Businesses buy these small blocks. They burn the blocks for energy. This makes a little bit of dangerous gas. But coffee in rubbish makes a lot of gas.
With coronavirus, lots of UK coffee shops closed. But Bio-bean is getting old coffee from other places. Now, they are planning a new factory in Europe.
