Landslides in Norway - B1+


Norwegian landslide - 12th June 2020

A huge landslide in Norway has swept 8 buildings into the sea.

The slide ran half a kilometre along the shore and 160 metres in land. It was the largest ever seen according to a Norwegian engineer who was involved in the rescue.

Jan Bakkeby escaped from his cabin to higher ground and filmed the event.

A rescue operation involved local police, fire and ambulance services, helicopter rescue, the Red Cross and the Coast Guard.

Fortunately, nobody was injured and only one rescue took place. A dog that was swept out to sea when the landslide began and was later rescued from the water by helicopter.

The cause of the landslide is still unknown.
