Trump becomes US President again - 25th November 2024
The American people have chosen Donald Trump to be their 47th President. The campaign wasn't an easy one for either side.
Trump beat the Democrat, Kamala Harris, who only entered the fight on 31st July. President Biden pulled out of the race after an awful TV debate with Trump.
Trump's campaign journey also had problems. There were two attempts to kill him. The Republican candidate had legal problems too.
On 30th May, he was convicted by the courts. His crime took place before 2016, his first presidential election. He paid people to prevent them talking to journalists.
The new president will have to face several other court cases. They are connected to businesses and to the 2020 election problems.
Trump will be the first US President with a criminal record. However, this isn't an issue for his fans.
Zachary Rindfuss: "I was happy with him when he was in before and then he lost the second election. And I see, I think I've seen America really make a downfall, and I like, I'm, I'm glad he's back in."
Many people feel differently.
Will Brown: "I am definitely not okay with that - you know, you know, very disappointing. I actually can't believe he was even eligible to run again, you know, considering everything that, you know, he did, you know, just unbelievable."
The Republican party's in a powerful position. As it now controls the Senate and also the House, it can make big changes in the law.
The easy win shocked some people, like this hospital worker.
Edwin Ortiz: "I knew it was going to be really close, 50/50. I didn't realize how far to one side it would've ended up being."
The ceremony to start Trump's next presidency will be on 20th January 2025.
