Longboard dancing goes viral - 16th October 2020
Videos of longboard dancing, a sport originating in the United States at the turn of the century, are flooding social media.
The sport's newfound popularity may be linked to this year's world championship, being held online for the first time in its seven year history.
The first world champion longboard dancer, Lotfi Lamaali, known to his 130,000 Instagram and 380,000+ Tik Tok followers by the alias Lotfiwoodwalker, is on the panel evaluating the 2020 competitors based on videos uploaded to Instagram.
Among this year's hopefuls is 2019 French vice champion Cassandre Lemoine, whose dazzling acrobatics caught the eye of an advertising agency, landing her a role as a brand ambassador for a clothing company .
Fluid dance steps, aerial tricks and speed make longboard dancing mesmerising to behold. But perhaps its coming of age in the era of social media has provided the key to success.
