The world's media witnessed Tinseltown's finest gather for its annual celebration of cinema as stars graced the red carpet hoping to walk away with film's most coveted awards.

The roar of approval for South Korean film 'Parasite' as it received this year's Best Picture Oscar marked the first time a non-English language film has been given the top honour in the Academy's 92-year history.

Accepting the trophy, Producer Kwak Sin-ae: "I feel like a very opportune moment in history is happening right now."

Bong Joon-ho was recognised with the Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, with Parasite's Oscar tally climbing to four on the night, having already won well over 20 international awards.

Joaquin Phoenix and Renée Zellweger picked up the Academy Awards for Best Actor and Best Actress for their portrayals of the title characters in 'Joker' and 'Judy' respectively. Taking home his first solo Oscar, Brad Pitt claimed Best Supporting Actor for 'Once Upon A Time in Hollywood'.
