Church starts fishing business - 28th August 2020
A priest in El Salvador has a new way to feed local people. Moises Rutilio Moran was worried about lockdown. Some people couldn't buy fresh food so he started collecting food for them.
Soon, he didn't have enough money either. He couldn't pay the church electricity and water bills.
Moran couldn't ask the community to pay. He decided to make a small pool and fill it with fish. Now, he's selling fish to the local community.
Moran: "The project was born from the need to earn an income that we were no longer receiving because people can't come to the church, and the fact that churches are closed, and with the goal of supporting the church."
In many churches, workers have lost their jobs. But Moran has provided his community with extra jobs.
Moran feels good about his project. But he hopes the church reopens soon. He is waiting to help churchgoers who are worried by the current situation.
