Footgolf kicks off in Malaysia - A2

Footgolf: A new sport - 30th July 2020

Footgolf is a new sport. It is a mix of football and golf.

Jeffrey Cottam started Footgolf in Malaysia.

Jeffrey: "The only difference between golf and footgolf is that the hole is 21 inches (wide) and we use a size five football and your legs are your clubs."

No one knows when or where Footgolf started. But there were competitions in the Netherlands 2008. Now, people play it all over the world.

People started to play Footgolf in Malaysia in 2018. Now, around 2,000 people play it there every month.

Jamiatul is a new Footgolf player.

Jamiatu: "I think for those who know how to use their capabilities and skills, I think you can manage even though this is your first time playing footgolf."

Now, people don't have time for golf. This is a problem for golf courses. They need money. They hope Footgolf will help. You can play Footgolf on normal golf courses. In the US, you can play Footgolf on more than 500 courses.

There is now a Footgolf world cup. New Footgolf players have time to practise for it. It will be in Japan in 2021.
