Peanut paste - 10th August 2022 View All

In Kenya, there's little food and no rain. Peanut paste is saving children's lives there.

James Jarso doesn't want the children to die of hunger.

James Jarso: "As I say it is about life saving. If children are not screened, children die as a result of malnutrition. The effect of drought, three years down the line, no rain."

There isn't enough peanut paste at the moment. It's too expensive. UNICEF says that Covid and fighting in Ukraine are the problem. The war in Ukraine is making food prices go up. Fuel is more expensive too.

Peanut paste is the perfect food for hungry children. It stops them getting too thin. One pack has 500 calories. It has vitamins and minerals too. It's ready to eat from the pack. This is perfect for the situation in Kenya.

There's no rainfall in the Horn of Africa. It's the worst drought in many years. 1.7 million children don't have any food to eat. James Jarso thinks peanut paste will keep the children alive. But he worries that there isn't enough.

James Jarso: "If we run out of this, more deaths would be recorded very soon actually, very soon. We lost a child, I saw. We actually referred four of them to Marsabit County referral hospital. One died! We lost him. Three of them survived. So, this one is life saving. Without this, more children will die." View Less
