Foreign journalist dies in Ukraine - 24th May 2023 View All
For lots of journalists, their work isn't only a job. They want to show what's true - to tell the truth. True stories are happening around us. Journalists hope to tell people about them. So journalists' work can be dangerous. They have to go to unsafe places.
Arman Soldin was a journalist with Agence France-Presse (AFP). He went to Ukraine when the war started. His mother said, "he wanted to see the truth".
On 9th May this year, Soldin died. He was with his team. The others were lucky. A rocket killed Soldin near Bakhmut, east Ukraine.
Now, 11 journalists have died in Ukraine.
In AFP offices everywhere, there was a moment of silence. Soldin's friends and colleagues wanted to remember him.
Phil Chetwynd: "I think just what emerges from that is just a simply wonderful human being, an unbelievably dedicated journalist who believed his work could make the world a better place. He was in Ukraine because he believed in that and I think it's incredibly important that we remember that and honour that."
Arman Soldin, 32, was from Bosnia. But he was a French citizen. French experts will now try to find out more information.
Most of this report's video is from Soldin's time in Ukraine.
