Voters choose US president - 6th November 2020 View All
The USA has a president. Americans have voted in the presidential election. The vote was between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. The election result was very close.
Covid made this election different. Lots of people voted before election day. Now, President Trump's lawyers want to cancel lots of these votes.
Biden: "We knew because of the unprecedented early vote, and the mail-in vote, that it was going to take a while. We're going to have to be patient until we, the hard work of tallying the votes is finished. And it ain't over till every vote is counted, every ballot is counted."
On election night, Trump said he was the winner. But no one knew the winner. People were still counting lots of votes. Trump's lawyers tried to stop people counting votes.
Trump: "We were winning everything and all of a sudden it was just called off. The results tonight have been phenomenal and we are getting ready, I mean literally, we were just all set to get outside and just celebrate something that was so beautiful, so good. Such a vote, such a success."
Mr Biden said this was wrong. He said only the people choose the winner.
Biden: "As I've said all along, it's not my place or Donald Trump's place to declare who's won this election. That's the decision of the American people. But I'm optimistic about this outcome."
Biden has won the most votes ever. But in the USA, winning isn't that simple. The winner in each US state gets all the votes from that state. Sometimes, this changes the election result.
