The future of fake news - 20th January 2025
Two technology companies, Meta and Apple, are making people worried. The problem's about fake news on the internet.
Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, wants to stop working with the organisation IFCN. IFCN checks information. Instead of IFCN, Facebook and Instagram will use "community notes". These notes let users check and make comments about stories. Meta's changes could be dangerous.
Meta's Mark Zuckerberg started checking information with IFCN in 2016. It was after the election of President Trump. Zuckerberg was worried about fake news. He wanted to stop it.
Then, Zuckerberg didn't like Trump and his ideas. But now, everything's different. People think Zuckerberg wants a good relationship between Meta and Trump.
Apple's in the news too. Apple Intelligence creates short news stories. It uses information on the internet. But its new system sometimes makes big mistakes. Many people want Apple to stop using Apple Intelligence. At first Apple said no. But it finally agreed to stop it.
