Tom Hanks unhappy with AI Tom Hanks - 30th Oct 2023
Is that Tom Hanks, or isn't it? The film star recently saw an advert for dental care, and he himself was acting in it! But he never acted in that advert, or got paid for it.
How is this possible? The advert used artificial intelligence, or AI. It's something which worries actors these days. AI's often used to create false information, like fake news.
During his career, Hanks has successfully used computer-generated images (CGI). In the animated film 'Polar Express', there was a digital Hanks. In 2022, he starred in 'A Man Named Otto', which used AI to make him look younger.
But, with the dental advert, the Oscar winner didn't give permission.
Hanks was interviewed recently and he explained that AI could be used after he dies. "I could be hit by a bus tomorrow… but performances go on and on."
He added, "There'll be nothing to tell you that it's not me."
Many actors realise it's a problem and recently many have gone on strike. They're angry about AI and also pay issues.
So, Tom Hanks isn't advertising a new dental plan. But, in his next film, Hanks will use AI once more. With AI technology, he'll look young again!
