Good people save a bad year - 30th December 2020

In summer, the pandemic continued. But some people did amazing things. One man taught children ballet. He taught for free. Now, some children want to teach ballet too.

Olamide: "And maybe one day I will become a dance teacher too."

This Buddhist monk can beatbox. He mixed Buddhist prayers with music. People liked it.

Akasaka: "If my music attracts younger people, it will be a good opportunity for them to know about the Buddhism."

The gyms closed in Doha. People started free running. Now they do it a lot.

Chakachero: "I did my first back flip and I was like, okay, that's it!

The pandemic situation was difficult. Lots of people felt sad or alone. They got a dog to feel happy again.

Avani Naresh: "Dog absorbs your entire stress, so they understand, you know, what you are going through"

Artists in London painted big pictures. They made people's streets colourful places.

Lee Bofkin: "They encourage people to slow down, to have new conversations."

In the UK, ambulance workers learned to fly. This will help them save people.

This church's priest became a fisherman. He helped people get food in the pandemic.

An important American judge died. She used the law to help many people.

Lorena Blanco: "She stands up for everyone - supported women, supported the LGBTQ community."

A woman became US vice president. She thanked other women from the past. She said they made it possible.

Kamala Harris: "women who throughout our nation's history have paved the way for this moment tonight."

And New Zealand's Prime Minister won a second time. She told people not to give up.

Jacinda Ardern: "Now more than ever is the time to keep going."

At the end of 2020, there was positive news. In Scotland, Aberdeen got green double decker buses. They use hydrogen.

Some people got married in the pandemic. They copied one of the Beatles.

Miani: "John Lennon got married with Yoko Ono here and it was like, for us."

People wanted to save the environment. It helps our cities.

Mahera: "It's only if nature thrives here, that it's good for the entire city."

And people started skating. It was a safe way to exercise. It helped people make new friends.

Gigi: "Just go and skate and, and meet a whole community. That's so nice."
