Little Amal - 27th October 2021

This is Little Amal. She's a puppet of a child refugee. Refugees are people with no homes. They come from countries with big problems.

Little Amal walked to England from Syria. Her journey was 8,000 kilometres.

There are 33 million child refugees in the world. Many child refugees are alone.

The name of Little Amal's journey is 'The Walk'. It travelled through 8 countries. In each country, people welcomed Little Amal.

But refugees' journeys are dangerous. British actor Jude Law wants people to understand refugees' problems.

Jude Law: "It just seemed the most brilliant way to celebrate, try and raise awareness and share with the people who have taken a similar path to little Amal. So I'm just here to support all of that and I'm really proud to be one of the first to welcome her here in the UK, which is my home."

Little Amal isn't little. She is 3.5 metres tall. Amir Nizar Zuabi made Little Amal. Kevin Fitzmaurice is the manager of 'The Walk'. He talks about her journey.

Kevin Fitzmaurice: "Amal, she is an art project at heart really, but I think the artists who have designed and built her and designed the whole project, I think it's really important for them that the humanitarian issues don't get forgotten in the political noise that's going on across the country and across the world at the moment."

Amal is an Arabic name. It means 'hope'. She is 10 years old. She celebrated her birthday in London. The 'Amal Fund' is collecting money. They want to help young refugees.
