Tokyo's Olympic oysters - 26th July 2021

Workers at the Tokyo Olympics found some special shellfish. They were on water floats in Tokyo Bay. The floats help water sports players. They keep the water flat.

The floats were sinking. The workers needed to find the problem. They found oysters. They had to take them away.

This was a long and difficult task. It was expensive to clean the floats. It cost $1.28 million.

The workers found 14 tonnes of oysters. But, they were not normal oysters. They were magaki oysters. They are an expensive food in Japan.

Sea Forest Waterway is the best place for water sports in Japan. But it will cost $1.5 million every year. The government must stop the oysters in the future.
