Cleaning popular on social media - 14th April 2023

Social media's latest fashion is cleaning. On the videos, simple tips are given about cleaning. There's also some advice for people who have extremely dirty homes. And millions of people are watching.

Abbi, from Liverpool in England, is a 'cleanfluencer'. As a single mum, she finds cleaning is good for her. Cleaning the cooker and making the children's beds makes her feel less stressed.

Abbi:"For me it's just like therapy, so if I have something on me mind, or I'm feeling anxious or stressed that day, I'll just start cleaning and I feel like it just takes me mind off things and then I feel more relaxed afterwards."

And Abbi now earns $720 to $1200 per video because companies pay her when she uses their products.

Auri Kananen, from Finland, is a cleanfluencer who has nine million TikTok followers and two million on YouTube. She now also travels abroad. She tries to find the dirtiest homes so she can help. Auri knows that dirt can be a sign of a health problem.

Auri Kananen:"Usually people have some kind of mental health problem or some other tragedy or something has happened in their lives and then they send pictures of their homes to me. And of course I look for the dirtiest homes possible. That's my goal."

The style of the cleanfluencers' videos is different from person to person. Ann Russell, from England, thinks it's important to show watchers. Cleaning, she says, is a skill we have to learn.

Ann Russell:"How on earth are you supposed to know? It's not some instinct to pick up a duster and a can of furniture polish. It's not, we're not born learning how to vacuum a carpet. It's something you have to be shown."

For all kinds of cleaning advice and tips, just watch and learn!
