Oil accident in Russia - 15th June 2020

There was an accident in Russia. Now, there is oil in a river.

Russian company Nornickel looks for oil in the Arctic. They keep the oil in tanks. But one tank broke. The oil went into a river.

Now, Nornickel is cleaning the river. They are taking the oil from the water.

The weather is changing in the Arctic. Now, there is warm weather. This is not normal. The ice is melting. Nornickel says this damaged the tank.

But some people have a different idea. They think the tank was old. They say Nornickel did not take care of the tank.

The accident happened on 29th May. A lot of oil went into the Ambarnaya river. The river changed colour. It became red from the oil.

The river Ambarnaya goes to a lake. Now, the oil is also in the lake. This is a big problem. People drink water from the lake.

Nornickel will continue to clean the river. But it will take a long time.
