The inside story on Harry and Meghan - 3rd August 2020

Prince Harry and Meghan are the subject of a newly published biography, "Finding Freedom". The book focuses on the reasons behind the couple's decision to leave the British Royal Family and relocate to North America.

Royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand describe the Duke and Duchess's situation. They faced increasing issues with other members of the Royal Family. The book centres on problematic relationships with Prince William and Kate. A UK newspaper has increased public interest in the book by printing extracts from it.

Meghan's treatment by other family members was, it says, a major factor in the Sussexes' decision. It describes how William and Harry's relationship broke down due to William's attitude to Meghan. However, the writers reject reports that Kate and Meghan did not get on. Instead, they found that the two were simply very different people.

The book also suggests that the Queen was deeply saddened at the Sussexes' decision. She wanted to avoid them separating from the Royal Family.

In a statement, Harry and Meghan's spokesperson said they were not interviewed for the book. It explained that they had had no input into the biography. It was based on independent interviews and the writers' knowledge as royal reporters.
