Britney spared - 6th October 2021

The dust on a fierce family dispute between American pop legend Britney Spears and her dad has settled.

The court has ruled in favour of Jamie Spears losing his conservatorship. Lawyer Mathew S Rosengart relayed the ruling to Britney's fans who were gathered to show support.

Mathew S Rosengart: "I'm so pleased and proud to say Jamie Spears is no longer a conservator."

Jamie Spears has had a 13 year conservatorship of Britney's life, following her mental health breakdown a few years ago.

As conservator, not only was he the legal guardian of her finances and professional life but also her private life. Troubled by her plight, her fans, called the B-army, led campaigns for her freedom and were moved by the Los Angeles court's ruling.

Nefertara Ozella: "My first reaction? I was overjoyed, I was so happy for Britney, this is the beginning for her of getting her life back."

James Edward: "It was just a beautiful feeling to hear that be announced and just the joy, the relief and just the feeling that came across everyone that's here today that made it worth coming out for."

Two recent documentaries have brought further accusations of Mr Spears' abuse of his role as conservator into the limelight, and which Britney's lawyer says are now under further investigation.

Mathew S Rosengart: "Putting a listening device under Britney Spears' bed in her bedroom, something that's very, very troubling. That's something that it is for law enforcement and not myself to make the ultimate conclusion on."

Britney's ordeal has seen the matter of conservatorship come under close scrutiny from the public, and the B-army remain resolute in sounding the alarm for those who find themselves in a similar predicament.

Melanie Mandarano: "It's not over even, even when she's free it's not over because B-Army is going to make sure that the 1.5 million people that are in conservatorships are also free. And we're going to amplify the voices of all of the other people who have been exploited and abused in this system."
