Angkor Wat is alive again - 14th October 2022
These forests are in Cambodia. They're near the Angkor Wat temple. In the past, people killed animals here, like these gibbons. Now, the gibbons are back.
A charity helped to bring the gibbons back. Nick Marx works for Wildlife Alliance.
Nick Marx: "We have now released four different pairs of gibbons within the Angkor forest. And they have gone on to breed and now seven babies have been born in the forest in Angkor. So, the project is going very well."
There aren't many gibbons in the world today. They're an endangered species.
People in Cambodia killed lots of forest animals. Farming destroyed animals' homes too. Many people were very poor. They ate the animals for food.
Angkor Wat temple's helping the animals. It's an important place. There are extra rules to look after the area. These rules keep animals safe.
Wildlife Alliance brought 40 different animals back to the area. It wants to teach tourists and citizens about the environment and the animals.
Moeurn Sarin likes looking after the gibbons.
