Queen Elizabeth II's funeral - 21st September 2022

Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest ruler, had her funeral in London. She died at age 96 on 8th September.

There were 2,000 people at her funeral, including royals of other countries and world leaders. The funeral happened at Westminster Abbey, the church where she got married and became Queen.

The coffin was carried by members of the Royal Navy. They took it through the streets of London. People waited along the street to say goodbye to the Queen. She was their Queen for 70 years.

Since the Queen died, people have put flowers at palaces and royal parks around the UK. Lots of people from around the world travelled to London to show their love. Many of them queued for 24 hours to see the coffin.

Some people slept outside for days waiting for the funeral.

Theresa Simons camped for two nights.

Theresa Simons: "Why wouldn't we want to see her? She was our Queen. She did a lot for our country. She did a lot for the world, I think. Um yeah- a nice place to be. It's just to pay our respects."

Michelle Larson and her family flew from the US for the funeral.

Michelle Larson: "We wanted to come over here and pay respects to the Queen. And, and - so we booked it and, and we're here until Thursday."

Michelle Larson: "And so, I think it's a testament to her character and her longevity. And I think also like - it's special to be here and experience this with her people and with the British people."

The Queen lived a long public life. She was buried at Windsor Castle next to Prince Phillip, her husband.
