Photographers in Vietnamese village - 9th February 2024

Tourists are coming to this small place - Quang Phu Cau. It's a village in Vietnam. The place is busy. Small businesses make incense sticks here. The sticks are different colours. Tourists love them. They want to take photos for Instagram.

Dang Thi Hoa makes incense. Her parents and grandparents did too.

Dang Thi Hoa: "I am proud of our family's traditional craft and I love my job. I also feel happy as our village has become more well known."

The incense sticks are usually red or pink. But now, it's different. They can be yellow, blue and green. Those colours are for the tourists.

Sarah Vanmalderghim: "It's a perfect combination of the traditional craft that you can see here. And it's nice to take photos with all the colours. So it's wonderful."

The Lunar New Year - 'Tet' - is a busy time. Businesses prepare for it. At Tet, Vietnamese people visit temples. They light the sticks. The incense is for their dead relatives. People want to remember them.

Now, the tourist business is important too. Helpers look after the tourists. They help tourists get good photos. The photos are important for Instagram! Tourists have to pay just $2.

They can buy incense sticks too. It all helps the village businesses.
