Technology tells the truth - 28th March 2022
Professors at Tel Aviv University in Israel have developed new technology to see when people are lying. Professors Yael Hanein and Dino Levy have made an important discovery.
They've found that two different types of people tell lies. Some move their eyebrows, and some move their mouth slightly.
The team says their technology can now recognise 73 percent of lies. They're still developing the software to improve this.
Dino Levy feels confident about its success. He says that it's "very, very hard" to lie with this technology.
'Polygraphs' were the first kind of machine which could find when someone was lying. A polygraph checks the person's heart rate, blood pressure and skin. It does this using electrodes.
First, the electrodes are connected to the person's skin. Then, they are asked questions. The machine measures the body's reactions.
But polygraph machines aren't completely reliable. Because of this, companies all over the world have tried to find technological solutions.
The Tel Aviv team hopes their new technology will work with video cameras. It could then be used in many situations. These include by the police, at airports, and even in online job interviews.
