The American popstar Katy Perry has lost a court case in Australia. Australian clothes designer Katie Perry won the case. In 2008, Katie Perry, the designer, trademarked her name in Australia for her clothing line. Perry, the singer, tried to stop her but gave up the fight.
The singer went on tour in Australia in 2014. At concerts, she sold clothes with her name on them. Five years later, the designer sued the singer for using her name. The judge agreed and said that the singer's company broke the trademark rule. The singer's company will have to pay but the amount hasn't been decided yet.
Justice Markovic said that the singer didn't mean to break the law. But, she rejected the singer's request to cancel the designer's trademark.
