Mannequins pose for police in street - 8th January 2020

Bangalore is in India. The police in Bangalore have some new help. They are dummies. The dummies look like traffic police. They wear the same clothes. They have the hat, shirt, orange vest and police badge.

They put the dummy police at major crossroads. Police hope drivers will think they are real police. They want drivers to follow traffic rules. Why do they need the dummies?

Bangalore has over 44,000 crossroads. Only 450 have traffic lights. Police control some other crossroads. But there are not enough police. Some crossroads don't have any police.

In 2019, there were 50,000 reports of dangerous driving. There were also 57,000 drink driving reports.

But will these dummy officers help fix the problem? Local people have mixed opinions.

Man 1: "It's a general human mentality when you see a policeman - you have the fear in your heart, 'Oh, I am doing something wrong, I will not do it.' "

Man 2: "We do not, do not follow rules even if they [police] are real. Then, how could it work when they are not even moving and running after us?"
