Chocolate painting of Guernica - 5th May 2021 View All
This picture is made from chocolate. It is a reproduction of one of the most famous paintings in the world, Guernica, which was painted by Pablo Picasso in 1937.
The painting is named after the Spanish town of Guernica. Picasso created the black and white painting after the town was bombed in 1937 during the Spanish civil war. The attack destroyed the town. Hundreds of people were killed.
The painting shows the attack. It focuses on the effect of war on people. Its powerful message is very clear: war causes pain.
The bombing of Guernica still has a lot of importance for the people of the town. It will soon be 85 years since the bombing. To remember the event, chocolatiers from the area decided to recreate the painting in chocolate. The copy is made from three different types of chocolate. It's the same size as the original painting: 7.7 metres wide and 3.5 metres high.
The chocolate Guernica will go on tour to different places in Spain. The locations include the town of Guernica itself.
