Nazaré in Portugal, renowned for its titanic waves, is a magnet for big-wave surf enthusiasts and spectators, who flock to the small village to experience these prodigious waves, which count among the highest ever surfed.
After four winters spent catching massive waves in Nazare, French surfer Justine Dupont has recently ridden her biggest yet.
The current world record for a woman surfer, set in early 2018, is held by Brazil's Maya Gabeira for a 68 feet wave.
The World Surf League is deliberating on whether Justine Dupont's wave establishes a new world record. The validated measurements will not be revealed until May 2020 when the WSL Big Wave Awards take place.
