Twin trouble in Sri Lanka! 5th February 2020 View All
Twins are people who have the same birthday and the same parents. A group in Sri Lanka invited twins to meet together. They wanted to set a new world record.
The event was organised by the Sri Lanka Twins group. Twins from all over Sri Lanka met at a sports stadium in Colombo, the capital city. The record to break was the World Record for the number of twins, triplets and quadruplets in one place.
The record was set in Taiwan in 1999. Then, 3,961 pairs of twins, 37 sets of triplets and 4 sets of quadruplets met together.
But the success of the Sri Lanka event caused problems for the organisers. More people than planned came to the stadium. The organisers weren't prepared for this. There were long queues for people to register.
The Guinness Book of Records sets strict conditions. All the registered twins have to stay together in the stadium for 5 minutes. They also have to have a group photograph. The numbers meant that organisers couldn't follow the rules.
The organisers are now waiting. The Guinness Book of Records needs to make a decision. If they have failed, the group are going to try again.
