Dad Harmony - 20th December 2023 View All

Five Swedish fathers have gained renown for their vocal prowess on TikTok, amassing over 20 million followers worldwide. A recording of their a capella performance on the social media platform catapulted them into viral stardom. However, the group has an unconventional and somewhat surprising origin - a bathtub at Peter Widmark's bachelor party.

Peter Widmark: "Well, this story all started at my bachelor party where we hang out and we were singing as we usually do when we hang out with each other… yeah in a bathtub."

Captured by Peter's brother on video, their melodic performance swiftly propelled them into TikTok stardom. Within a week, their following soared from 40,000 to over a million followers, marking the inception of a rapid ascent. In their 30s and each father of two children, they've made the most of Sweden's parental leave by sharing the joys of fatherhood together.

Peter Widmark: "When we hang out, the kids can hang out with each other. And as many people see in the videos, the, the, we have a- it's a soothing thing when we are singing."

Catering to eager live audiences, they've embarked on a 'Dad Harmony' tour across Sweden, without their children. Nevertheless, their tour life's a far cry from a rock and roll lifestyle. They integrate their passion and new found stardom with attending to work commitments and family time.

Sebastian Åkesson, Peter Widmark and Michael Aberg: "No televisions flying from the hotel rooms! We have a quite boring tour life. Shovelling snow! It came two metres of snow this week, so I think that's all the things that we have done during the evenings."

Supporters attending their performances appreciate the inherent simplicity of the experience and the group's relatability.

Emma Solinen: "We Swedes like it in that way! I mean we are humble and like normal people, and we like normal people."

Having amassed an international following on their TikTok account, Dad Harmony's eyeing a possible world tour. Nevertheless, given their parental duties, logistical considerations may need to include the school holidays.

Sebastian Åkesson: "Hopefully we'll get to some countries in Europe, maybe the States and somewhere in Asia, but time will tell. We don't know at the moment."
