Art spills onto the city streets - 11th September 2020 View All
London is holding its first Mural Festival.
Over 150 local and international artists are coming together to create 60 murals throughout the city.
The murals will be painted on private houses, housing estates, cultural centres and other public areas.
D*Face is a street artist from the UK.
D*Face: "So, each mural takes, each mural takes about a week of pre-planning and then about a week of painting. So irrespective of the scale, they generally take 5 to 7 days."
The artists each apply their own technique but respect the wall owner's preferences about their mural's content.
Lee Bofkin is CEO of the London Mural Festival.
Bofkin: "We believe, strongly, that our city should be painted more. They encourage people to slow down, to have new conversations, to appreciate their environment a bit more, to get off their phone a little bit. Or, to share it on their phone but encourage other people to leave the house a bit."
The murals will be appearing across London in September. However, the artists hope they will give people a sight to enjoy for a long time to come.
