Footgolf kicks off in Malaysia - 30th July 2020 View All
Footgolf, a new sport that combines golf and football, is taking off in Malaysia and around the world.
Jeffrey Cottam founded Footgolf in Malaysia.
Jeffrey: "The only difference between golf and footgolf is that the hole is 21 inches (wide) and we use a size five football and your legs are your clubs."
The origin of the sport is unknown, but players now come from around 36 countries. The earliest recorded tournaments were held in the Netherlands in 2008.
The game first came to Malaysia in 2018, where you can now find around 2,000 people playing every month.
Jamiatul has just completed her first round of Footgolf.
Jamiatu: "I think for those who know how to use their capabilities and skills, I think you can manage even though this is your first time playing footgolf."
Golf has been falling in popularity in many countries because few young people have the time or money to play. It's hoped that Footgolf will provide struggling golf courses with additional income.
And if you're thinking of taking up the sport, you may still have time to prepare for the World Cup in Japan, which has been postponed to 2021.
