Dragon boat festival continues - 10th July 2020 View All
This is Tuen Ng Jit, the Dragon Boat Festival. It is popular in South East Asia. It is an important holiday.
Here in Hong Kong, there are usually lots of Dragon Boat teams. Teams come from many different countries. Lots of people usually watch.
This year the festival is very small. There were big problems from coronavirus. But they had a small festival.
There were 12 teams from local businesses.
Charlotte and Quentin are part of one team.
Charlotte: "We need to train keeping the social distancing rules, so we try to really live with that and comply with this, but we are happy to be back, we know that we need to be prudent, so that the races, well we can be back for training and races."
Quentin: "It was amazing, the organisation has done a really good job, they kept all the traditional ceremonies and the atmosphere was really really cool, really nice.
Charlotte: "Yeah you can see everyone's happy to be here."
The festival is very old. There are lots of stories about it. Some say it stops illness. Other people think it takes away bad luck.
