Beyoncé biggest Grammy winner ever - 20th February 2023

This year's Grammy awards ceremony was unprecedented in many ways. The highlight though was Beyoncé, who won a record breaking 32nd Grammy.

Her album Renaissance earned best dance/electronic album, which made it a historic night for her and everybody else. The record she beat was set over 20 years ago by Hungarian-British conductor, George Solti. "I'm trying not to be too emotional," she said as she accepted her prize. "I'm trying just to receive this night."

She thanked her whole family, but especially her Uncle Johnny, who created her costumes for her at the beginning of her career. His involvement with the LGBTQ+ community and his passing due to HIV inspired her Renaissance album.

Although she broke a record, Beyoncé was passed over for album of the year, which went to British artist Harry Styles. Styles accepted the award for his third album, Harry's House, for which he modestly said, "On nights like tonight, it's important for us to remember that there's no such thing as best in music."

Another highlight was Sam Smith and Kim Petras' best duo/group performance for their single Unholy. They both accepted the award together. However, to celebrate the first transgender woman who has been awarded in this category, while Petras gave her speech, Smith remained silent.

Lizzo's record of the year win and Bad Bunny's exciting performance were stand out moments of the ceremony. Singer-songwriter Bonnie Raitt's ballad Just Like That won song of the year. This came as a surprise as it beat the expected favourites Beyoncé and Taylor Swift.

The ceremony closed with a performance which celebrated 50 years of hip-hop music. Popular hip-hop artists like Busta Rhymes gave a 12-minute performance of some of hip-hop's top hits.

It was an epic evening of records, shockers and celebrations. It was a Grammys to remember.
