Long live the queen - 16th February 2022
Britain's celebrating its longest ruling queen, Queen Elizabeth II. She rose to the throne after the death of her father, King George VI, on 6th February 1952.
The Queen was only 25 at the time but now, she is 95 years old and has been on the throne for 70 years. This is her platinum year!
In a normal year, the Queen would remember her father in private at her Sandringham home, where he passed away. However, for her platinum year, she has announced her wishes and plans.
She'd like for Prince Charles' wife Camilla to become Queen Consort when Charles takes the throne. She also wishes that they both receive the same support she has.
For her platinum jubilee, there'll be four days of public holiday in June. And like her previous silver, gold and diamond celebrations, there'll be similar events.
The platinum jubilee celebrations will be the Queen's first without her husband, who passed away in 2021. However, it is expected that Covid rules will be less strict by then. So, people will be able to join in the jubilee celebrations in the streets.
