Trump wins election 2024

On the back of an electoral battle fraught with controversy on both sides of the political arena, Donald Trump has been elected to become the 47th President of the USA.

Trump's presidential counterpart, Democrat Kamala Harris, threw her hat into the ring on 31st July, after President Biden conceded his party's nomination in the fallout of an abysmal performance in a televised debate with his opponent.

For Trump too, his journey to the White House's hallowed halls has been a rocky one, blighted by two attempted assassinations and an endless stream of lawsuits. The 30th May saw him convicted of precisely 34 counts of felony in connection with hush money payments, as part of a scheme to illegally bias the election of 2016 in his favour.

Two further criminal cases are pending in relation to Trump's endeavours to quash the 2020 election results, in addition to countless civil cases which could conceivably amount to millions of dollars in payouts. Yet, while the business mogul takes office in January 2025, becoming the first US president ever to be a convicted felon, his devotees remain unabashed.

Zachary Rindfuss: "I was happy with him when he was in before and then he lost the second election. And I see, I think I've seen America really make a downfall, and I like, I'm, I'm glad he's back in."

Not surprisingly, his critics feel otherwise.

Will Brown: "I am definitely not okay with that - you know, you know, very disappointing. I actually can't believe he was even eligible to run again, you know, considering everything that, you know, he did, you know, just unbelievable."

Further to the Republicans' victory in the presidential race, they've also regained control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, marking a momentous leap forward for the GOP.

Many were taken aback by the decisive nature of their triumph, including hospital employee Edwin Ortiz.

Edwin Ortiz: "I knew it was going to be really close, 50/50. I didn't realize how far to one side it would've ended up being."

Trump is set to be inaugurated as president for a second time on the 20th January 2025.
